Butterfly Stepping Stones

A painted butterfly, maybe two or more. I’ve had these very shabby vintage butterfly stepping stones for sometime now, look at the detail!

Can you imagine adding a piece of cloth over these beautiful stones?

Here you go, Orange, red, yellow acrylic paints mixed together simply brushed over a  wet piece of cotton, pulled tight over a beautiful intricate stepping stone.

Your final color should be a contrasting color dry brushed over your dry stone… Let me know your thoughts?

Another sample below.. Shiva oil stick rub here below ( after the cloth has dryed) Oil sticks take awhile to dry, this one I left out in my side yard 3 day’s to cure.  Heat set as well. Cold wash, short cycle,  orvus soap paste.

Tile Paintings

I love looking for tin tiles, metals, anything that creates a beautiful painting on cloth . This one came from a road trip to AZ. many years ago, I found this along side a trash bin, and just had to have it!

This one to the right is what it looks like now on silk. A simple process of  cloth over tin, with few colors in between.. Fun to play with on a warm day.  Although this one is reversed if you look closely you can see the separation lines of hues, along with some detail. Think of the possibilities!

Dinner at Eight “The Space Between”

I loved working on this piece. Heartfelt, fun, challenging, filled with memories of my school days. Take a look at “Twins” and let me know what you think. I feel most comfortable working on pieces that represent my life with meaning. Occasionally I do venture out of the box, but not often. This is my comfort zone!

I’m thrilled to have my piece “Twins” included  in this venue. Dinner at Eight Artists presents “The Space Between: An interpretation of the Physical and Metaphorical”, a juried invitational which will premier in July 28-31, 2011, at the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, California.  Sponsored by Moore’s Sewing Centers. Click here Dinner, it will take you to the Dinner at Eight blogspot for much more info, along with artists profiles, and many more profiles to come. Enjoy!

I didn’t add names to the actual pages, I have to say though that in my mind as I made these pages I thought of names for each Lil’ peeps without pause. Hewie is on the left.

This guy’s name is Duke.  Gotta luv the hat!

Here’s Alice! On some of the pages I added flowers and trees. Some girls have bows.

This Lil’ one is Elmer. I put a jumper on him.

Inside page/face in the crowd

One of 20 pages. Each page is loaded with colors and threads. I love the look of the blotched hues of color, some pages are tea and coffee stained.

All the pages look somewhat vintage and worn slightly. Love the look of a book thats been around the block more then once!

Sketchbook Project 2011

Almost completed with this project. It needs to be post marked on or before Jan.15th. This was so much fun to do!  From a plain ordinary journal 40 page or so book to a 20 page thick booklet. I took every page out and painted, tea/dyed, overpainted, you name it, I played with it.

My theme is Face in the crowd.  To the left is the cover. All the shapes, faces, etc. were machine doodled with a variety of threads, from there I used paints, inks, markers for shading and highlights

I really love the way it all flowed together. Each page as you flip thru has a unique whimsy character with colorful features and funky doo’s…

Fresh

Postcard BookletJust recently finished this Lil’ booklet to hold (within a pocket inside)  mini fabric postcards. Hand made using tapestry fabrics, beaded ribbon, and beadwork.

I’ll be working on more of these booklets soon. I belong to a wonderful fiber art group called “Serendipities” a local So. Cal. group of wonderful artists. We have been exchanging cool little postcards for a year to date.
